Due to increased growing the last two months India has now risen up to be the second largest tobacco producer in the world. They are also the third largest exporter of tobacco products. Read more about it here.

Next month the voters in Missouri will decide if the taxes on tobacco products will increase or not. Proposition B calls for that the state taxes on one pack of cigarettes will raise from 17 cents to 90 cents. Missouri now have the lowest tobacco tax in US, but maybe soon no more. The Russian Prime Minister Dmitri A. Medvedev now calls for a ban on smoking in public places by year 2015. Medvedev thinks it’s a bad idea to let children I the country see people smoking in cafés, bars etc. Because it makes them think it’s something normal. A lot of people consider Hookah or Shisha smoking less dangerous than smoking regular pipe or cigarettes. Due to raised taxes the price of cigarettes in France went up the 1 of October. A price of Marlboro red now costs 6.60 euro which is pretty high even to be in Europe. Not if you compare to the most expensive countries like Norway and Australia though. A gang tried to smuggle two lorries loaded with 13 million cigarettes into Sussex but got stopped at Newhaven and Dover. The disguise didn’t help this time. The customs soon realized that the packets looking like ice cream, yoghurt and frozen pizza really was packed with cigarettes. Now the gang of smugglers is going to jail. Tobacco companies who sold untaxed cigarettes broke the law. A few cigarette companies in US have escaped taxes by selling cigarettes tax free to retailers in an American Indian reservation in Long Island, who have then sold it back to people in the city for cheaper prices.
