The e-cigarette makers are
criticized for using the exact same way of advertising as the tobacco companies did in the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s. That includes too give away free samples, using celebrities and sport sponsorships. Three of every five cigarettes consumed in New York was smuggled from states with lower tax in 2011 according to an new estimates. The reason is of course the high taxes in New York and the big difference between states in US. You can read more about it at New York Times homepage.

Australia is shifting their cigarette packs to plain ones, so you can’t see any brand name or logo on them. One guy have made sure nine supermarkets doesn’t miss it by saying he comes from the cigarette industry to remove the old packages and replace them with the new ones. The problem is that he never returns.

According to BBC News a new idea from Australia (where else?) is to make smokers apply for a license to smoke. Age would be checked of course, but also if you really understand the health issues that comes with smoking etc. In the proposal you should also have to pay for your license. In Canada they have a lot of problems with contraband tobacco. Instead of get tax money and have control over the age of people who buy cigarettes the Canadian government has a big problem on their board. The contraband cigarettes reaching the market via organized crime organizations who also working with weapons and hard drugs. The illegal cigarettes is also easy for under aged high school students.
